The Science and Ethics of Biotechnology Honors
In the Science and Ethics of Biotechnology, students explore Plant Biotechnology and Biochemistry. The sophomores also do chromatography labs and analyze data from experiments. During this course, the students receive the opportunity to design a website which can be entered in the Teen Biotech Challenge and the SPARK CIRM internship.

Course Glimpse

After being given the opportunity to be in the Spark Internship, this student is analyzing her results by counting the amount of cells still present in her experiment.

Biotech 2 students get to experience, learn about, and perform gel chromatography labs

Students of Biotech 2 worked diligently in the greenhouse, growing a variety of plants including fruits, vegetables, and flowers, for their plant sale!

Students conducted germination experiments using plant hormones to find the impact of fertilizer levels on seedlings. They also did phototropism and gravitropism experiments.

As a visual experiment, sophomores made root beer with warm water, sugar, yeast, and root beer (sarsaparilla) extract to gain a better understanding of yeast fermentation!
